Wedding cake Project; June 2008

HVAC facilitated the construction site for a six foot diameter marble, mirror and tile wedding cake. The project was conceived by Hayes Valley restaurateur, Santiago Rodriguez of Frjtz. Fellow collaborators Laurel. True; founder of the Institute of Mosaic Art, Lillian Sizemore; author of “Guide to SF Mosaic Sites”, and Madeline Behrens-Brigham; co-founder of HVAC, assisted in the design and construction. A team of volunteers; Randi Cazensa, Jack Dynes, and Ben Otis Dugger Lerer provided much needed expertise for the completion. The cake was displayed at The San Francisco City Hall for the month of August 2008.For more info, see www.weddingcakeproject.org

“Remembering 580”, Hayes Valley History Show, July 5th to August 5th, 2008

“Remembering 580” was co-produced by HVAC in conjunction with AgeSong, the current owners of the former market building. The show was a retrospective involving merchants, neighbors, artists and the former and current owners. It chronicled many stories from the community with the emphasis on the last twenty years of development. The kick-off ceremony offered doughnuts, coffee and juice in the tradition of the Kharsa family; thirty year owners of 580 Hayes. A potluck dinner brought former customers and neighbors together as one of the many events held during the month long exhibition.
